Hi, welcome to my counselling page.

Sue Thomas Face

Why counselling?

People often come to counselling when they have identified a problem in their lives, especially in the way they relate to others, or are experiencing a particularly difficult challenge or trauma. In my work, I aim to provide a safe and confidential environment for us to explore any difficulties you may be having. A better understanding of ourselves allows us greater control, and increases our self confidence and well-being. Consequently, helping us to make healthy choices and to lead a happier life

About me

At present, I have been in practice for over three years and am working towards accreditation from the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics and you may be assured of confidentiality. My training, and personal therapy experience, is in psychodynamic counselling which puts the relationship between client and counsellor at the forefront of the process, be it for one session or for longer term counselling. It is through the relationship that issues are illuminated. However, guided by your needs, it may be appropriate to work in a more solution-based way.

People have said they appreciate my calming nature, and that I have a naturally accepting and non-judgemental attitude towards others. For myself, I admire people who take courage and are able to speak out even though it may be uncomfortable to be honest, but I also accept that some things may be too painful to bring into the open at the time. Talking through and speaking out your thoughts and feelings can be invaluable in the resolution of the conflict inside. Trust in the relationship may be evident immediately or it may take some time to build.

I have particular specialisms in loss and bereavement and have worked for five years as a voluntary bereavement counsellor for an charitable agency.

In my work as a counsellor, I take interest in the interaction between mind and body, which comes from my belief in looking at the person as a whole, and my long practice as a body therapist.

My background is in bodywork and I have worked as a massage therapist, aromatherapist and reflexologist full-time for 16 years. Over this time, I have worked with a wide variety of clients from all kinds of backgrounds. I worked for seven years within the NHS taking referrals from GPs and for six years with clients with mental health problems at the Maudsley Hospital.

I completed the MA in counselling at Goldsmiths College in 2012.
